People are busier than ever and it seems as though spending time with loved ones can sometimes take a backseat. Making the change to plan time specifically for family and friends is important not only to stay connected with your loved ones, but to also improve your well being. Here are several tips for spending more time with loved ones:
- Assign “alone time” with your loved ones so that it is just you and them. Do this with your children, spouse, other family members, and friends. Spending one-on-one time with someone that you care about lets them know that they are an important priority in your life.
- Integrate “together time” into your daily schedule. Make it special with themes such as “Tuesday Family Game Night” or “Date Night Friday.”
- Have a family meeting. Designate a time once or twice a month to sit down with your family and discuss what is going on, future plans and important topics that are currently affecting their lives.
So, you have scheduled in the change to spend more time with loved ones, but what do you do? Here are several ideas for fun ways to spend time together.
- Volunteer together at your favorite, local non-profit organization.
- Visit the zoo.
- Look at old photo albums of family vacations.
- Visit the library (take it one step further by researching your family history if you are from the area that you live in).
- Play hopscotch, stickball, kickball, or family football outside.
- Fly a kite.
- Go bird watching.
- Bake sweet treats or dinner together.
- Go camping and hiking.
- Host a family budgeting class. Use the budget to plan for a family trip.
Anything creative and fun will work. Make the change and spend more time with your loved ones today!
